The Little Pocket Box Of Courage

Design Goal

This project examines the vital role of visual communication within the dialogue of a society, specifically pertaining to the issues that affect the well-being of its cultural integrity in the areas of health and wellness. In this class, the students were divided into teams of two. The Human Resources Department of the City of Savannah presented to us their need to establish a visual identity for their employees’ health and wellness program.

Design Solution

The final outcome was designed by keeping the employees at the center throughout the process. By using the methods of contextual research, such as ethnography, and preparing questionnaires and conducting surveys, we gained important insights from the city’s employees. For the final design outcome there were no budgetary restrictions. Therefore, the visual outcome could be printed or digitally presented. The main aim was to establish a culture of health and maintain the design goals. My teammate and I decided to have boxes, which would consist of a DECK OF CARDS. These would have healthy tasks that employees could follow. In order to make this experience fun we tried to game-ify it by adding in cards such as REPLAY, where the employee would have to repeat the last task for the next 12 days. The box would include a deck of cards as well as a map consisting of the healthy places to eat in Savannah, or a list of the healthiest foods that the employee could pick when they go out for lunch.

Design Concept

The overall concept was to motivate the employees to take small steps towards a healthy lifestyle. Small daily steps, reminders and motivational quotes would help the employees continue making changes towards a healthy lifestyle and slowly turn these changes into a habit.
