Education in 21st Century

Education in 21st Century

Introduction

Every project begins with a question. This one asked: how do you make people care about something happening far away, to people they may never meet? The goal was to take complex, often overlooked information and present it in a way that's interactive, engaging, and hard to ignore. The subject was the lack of access to education — specifically for the girl child — and the way that gap quietly shapes the economic future of entire communities. At its heart, the project set out to answer a single question: How can we spread awareness about the lack of education, and its impact on economic standing, in a way that genuinely engages people?

Challenges

Challenges

Even in the 21st century, basic education still eludes millions and the burden falls hardest on girls.

775 million adults are illiterate worldwide, and 64% are women. The challenge was distance: these issues live in the developing world, but the audience often does not. The data couldn't just inform — it had to shift how people think, landing emotionally with viewers who might otherwise feel removed from it all.

Final thoughts

Final thoughts

The breakthrough came from a simple, literal idea: shedding light.

The result was an interactive installation, 108 inches long, that reads like a journey. Using the light from their own phones, viewers reveal the story one slide at a time. That small act — choosing to shine a light — turned passive viewers into participants, and statistics into something felt rather than simply read.
